Paris- Les Invalids






Les Invalides was first called Grenelle Plain when it was founded by the sun king - Louis XIV in 1670. In 1671 the first stones were laid, It was planed to be an old soldiers' home, but who would have thought it will turn out to be a 4000-room complex. Libéral Bruant draw up the construction plan and Rober de Cotte layed out the Esplandade. in 1676 the building was finished.

In 1706, they began building the dome. Jules Hardouin-Mansart first to design the dome, but it was finished by Robert de Cotte due to Hardouin-Mansart's death in 1708.

In 1840, the most important event was held in Les Invalides when the body of Napoléon returned to France. 19 years after the the Emperor died; Louis-Philippe, King of France retrived the Napoléon's ramains after seven years of negotaition with the British government.
